With eighteen holes of classically-designed golf
following the natural terrain, the course
of Cleveland Country Club is
noted for its deceptively challenging layout and meticulous conditioning.
As the course was designed over a period of two and half decades, the
front and back nines
are remarkably different, but offer a wonderful blend
of scenic and cleverly routed holes which host many different strategies.
|
|
With the front nine built and
completed in the late 1920's, you'll find gently rolling
fairways
and a demand for accurate tee shots.
The "loop",
as it was called, (10, 17, and 18) was completed in the mid 1940's.
The back nine was finished in the early '50's and completed the back
nine's characteristic
hilly layout and "sneaky length".
|
|
Though many may underestimate the 6,389 yard course, the doglegs, hills,
and strategic
placement of hazards should call attention to the well-deserved
rating/slope of 71.5/130.

Cleveland Country Club hosts one of the best tests of golf in western
North Carolina.
